Hi Jonok. Benjamin Howarth is the man to ask, as although it was a team build, he did the final wrap up and release AFAIK, so is probably best placed to comment on updates, 4.5 support etc.
Although I could never get SUMO to work, so don't know the features it had in detail, I understand that it's very similar in funcionality to Matt Brailsford's Desktop Media Uploader which does work on 4.5 and is a very neat project indeed. So personally I'd run with DMU.

The codeplex page doesn't have much documentation ( http://sumo.codeplex.com/ ) , and I'm not sure how to get it working on Umbraco v4.
Also does anybody know whether an Umbraco version 4.5 will be released?
