Media items are... nodes, just as content, so same technique applies to this type of content. Anyway, backup your db before doing any manual db intervention (which I would strongly advice against, but if there's no other options...). Be aware that a manual db intervention may corrupt the *media* stored in cache and probably your Lucene index for media...
Need to move LOTS of media items
I need to move lots of media items from one folder into a number of others ... is there a package that would help me do a bulk move of media items ?!

OK, is that more so than for manually manipulating content nodes?
