Need an advise on which extension to build first for Umbraco
Greetings Folks,
Our team have been building extensions for DotNetNuke for quite a while and now we are looking to create a few extensions for Umbraco. I am looking for an advise from you on what to start with. I've got a few extensions in mind and wonder if you think they'll be useful for Umbraco community?
Can't really say which project you should start off with for an Umbraco package - the decision is yours (and/or your team). :-)
They all look very good and would be useful! There are already a few video players (although to my knowledge none support video conversion - as your desktop app would support). Calendars, there is a commercial option called uCalendar - not sure about any conflicts there? Image galleries - again, there are already a few packages, but IMHO nothing generic enough. Lastly a starter kits are relatively new to Umbraco - personally I see a LOT of scope in this area ... so maybe a good idea to start there?
Above all else, my advise is enagage with the community (e.g. on the forums, or twitter) ... we're a super friendly bunch, but we could come across a little over-protective if you're seen as an DNN'er trying to cash in. (Not suggesting that at all!) :-D
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I am not a DNN'er at all :) Right now my personal focus is on Quote Roller, which is the SaaS app for sales quotes.
I think all top CMS systems got their pros and cons. We've done a few jobs with Umbraco. It turns that some of our developers really liked it and asked to make a shift to it, soo, here I am :)
Hopefully we'll be able to organically squize in to the community. We're cool and friendly too.

Here they are:
1) Video Player
2) Calendar
3) Quick Gallery (image gallery)
4) Star Skin (customizeable to pretty much anything theme)
It would be great to find out what you think about porting those extensions to Umbraco. Your support is really appreciated.

Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Cheers, Lee.
