    That's a pretty open question - the differences are many and substantial.

    https://our.umbraco.org/download/releases/compare?from=4.11.8&to=7.10.4 lists the following:

    • 244 new features
    • 127 breaking changes
    • 2911 issues and tasks

    More specifically, v7 is a far more mature product than v4, as you'd expect with the years' of development effort between the two.

    Umbraco 7 is the current version. Umbraco 4.6 is more than 5 years old.

    The biggest difference are these :

    • The backend : Umbraco 4.6 backend is built on webforms, while Umbrac 7 is using Angular for the backend
    • MVC support : Umbraco 7 has full MVC support (introduced in 4.9 I believe), while 4.6 uses a combination of ASP.NET masterpages, Usercontrols, XSLT and razor macro's (no MVC)
