What is the easiest way to transfer documents/files from one server to another programmatically, based on an event???
Also, Can I test out using the API with the trail version? I would like a proof of concept before the full version is purchased.

have a look on the developement docs at:

they both outline working with extraction (installing items) and transfers (just moving the xml representation to another location/repository)
Also, you can test the api, but only on a localhost website, as that is what the trial is limited to.
