    Multilingual site trouble

    Hi all,

I'm trying to set up an Umbraco installation with four sites (well, bascially the same site, just copied) with different languages.

    My structure is as follows:

    - da
         - Forside
         - Underside 1
         - Underside 2

    - en
         - Frontpage
         - Subpage 1
         - Subpage 2

    - se
         .....

    - no
        ......

On all of the language sites (da, en, se, no) I have a redirect property, the umbracoRedirect one which points to the Forside/Frontpage. Also, I have set up the hostnames on the en, se and no nodes to: http://en.mysite.dk, http://se.mysite.dk and http://no.mysite.dk and chosen the associated languages/dictionaries for them.

Thing is, that when i try to access http://en.mysite.dk or any of the other, for that matter, I'm getting a 404 screen. However, if I try to access http://mysite.dk/frontpage.aspx (note: this is the node in my english website), the english version shows up fine.

What could I have done wrong here? I've had a peek at the videos on the topic on umbravo.tv, which suggest this setup.

To be honest, I have no clue what-so-ever on how administrate DNS-stuff :-) also, i don't have access to administrate it as the site is hosted at a dedicated hosting company.

Any suggestions on this is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Bo

    Hi Bo,

We also use a simular setup quite often, although we do tend to have one root document type as a parent of the language containers (for global settings, or language selection, etc.) but I do think your Umbraco setup should work just fine.

Whether you are using subdomains or different domain names for each language, you will have to create a CNAME record to make sure the domain is redirected to the server hosting your website. I'm not sure if you can manage the domain names yourself, but I guess your hosting provider would probably be able to configure it for you.

Umbraco also seems to have a bug with hostnames. Have a look at this topic: http://our.umbraco.org/forum/getting-started/installing-umbraco/28790-Multiple-multilingual-website-hostname-problem

Lennart: Thanks a lot for your input on this :-) I have contacted the hosting company about the CNAME setup. Hopefully they know what I'm talking about, hehe. We'll see..

Jeroen: Whoa, that's not what I wanted to see :-( I'll have a hard time to explain to the client that hostnames is not functioning at the moment. Will it be possible for you pass over that patch somehow? Eventually via email at mail [at] bo-mortensen [dot] dk ? That would make my life a lot easier (and then I'll have to buy you two beers for CG12 ;-))

    Thanks in advance,

    Bo
